Both are single-engine turboprops that cruise at up to 330 knots and can take off from a 2,535 ft runway, so they can use small regional airports that larger jets can’t. Daher TBM 940 Overview
Daher introduced the TBM 940 in 2019 as an upgrade to the TBM 930. It has a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66D engine rated at 850 shp, along with Garmin G3000 touchscreen avionics. It was the first turboprop under 12,500 lb to come with a factory-installed autothrottle, which holds the speed the pilot selects and lightens the workload on long legs.
Since 2020, the TBM 940 has been available with Garmin HomeSafe emergency autoland. If the pilot can’t fly, a passenger can press one button and the aircraft lands itself at the nearest suitable airport.

Daher TBM 960
Daher launched the TBM 960 in April 2022 to replace the TBM 940. The airframe, top speed and range didn’t change. The upgrades are in the engine, the propeller and the cabin.
The new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6E-66XT engine has digital engine and propeller control, so the pilot manages power with a single e-throttle lever. It turns a five-blade Hartzell Raptor composite propeller. Daher also raised the maximum takeoff weight to 7,615 lb, and HomeSafe emergency autoland comes with the aircraft.
Passengers get the Prestige cabin, which has touchscreen climate control, dimmable windows, heated seats and USB-A and USB-C charging ports.
The newest model, the TBM 980, was unveiled in January 2026. It has the same engine as the 960, plus Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics and a provision for Starlink internet. Only a few are flying so far, so we quote TBM 980 trips on request.

Daher TBM 940 and TBM 960 Interior
The TBM has six seats, including the pilot’s. In the back, four leather seats face each other in a club layout, and a fifth passenger can sit up front beside the pilot. The cabin is 4 ft high, so you’ll sit the whole flight, a bit like riding in a roomy SUV.
Large windows keep the cabin bright. Soft bags fit the baggage spaces more easily than hard suitcases. If every seat is full, ask us about the weight limit for luggage when you book.
FAQ: Daher TBM 940
Both can fly up to 1,730 nm (about 1,990 miles) at long-range cruise with only the pilot on board. That’s enough for nonstop trips like New York to Miami, Los Angeles to Denver or Chicago to Dallas. With more passengers and bags, the range is shorter.
About 7 hours on full fuel at the long-range cruise speed of 252 knots. Flying faster shortens that: at 290 knots, Daher lists the TBM 960’s range as 1,585 nm, or about 5.5 hours.

The TBM 960 has a newer engine with digital controls and a single throttle lever, a Hartzell Raptor propeller, a higher maximum takeoff weight and the Prestige cabin. Speed and range are the same, so for most trips the choice comes down to which aircraft is available near you.
